Before & After

Before & After

This week, we caught up with Adi Sumic, the 2008 Visual Arts winner. Adi received his prize during the awards ceremony in Turin, Italy in September 2008, where his project, Horse Power, was also featured in an exclusive photo shoot on a horse race track.

After his victory at the 2008 Young Creative Chevrolet awards, he went to Portugal from February to July 2009 to take part in an exchange semester where he learned a lot, worked on some interesting projects but also had a great time while staying next to the beach and catching the surf every day.

We managed to get a few minutes in Adi’s busy schedule to find out what he’s been up to lately:

What are you up to now Adi?

I am back home in Slovenia finishing my final school projects at the Academy of Design and writing my thesis. I want to finish my BA as soon as possible and then go abroad or try to enroll in a Masters program somewhere. I will see how much money I will have by then. Who knows – I might even try out a career as a pro kite surfer.

What have you done since participating in YCC?

I gained a lot of knowledge, had interesting experiences and met a lot of new and cool people. I've also done some interesting projects but don't have the final results yet.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Today I’m actually not sure. The first thought that comes to mind though is - on the waves or in deep powder trying to get new crazy design ideas!

What advice would you give future participants in YCC?

The end goal isn’t the most important, but how you reach it is. Above all, push the limits, go over the edge and be true to yourself.
