Ian Cook is a contemporary artist with a twist..... he is well known for painting solely using radio control cars, car tyres and toy car wheels. Based in the West Midlands - infamous for its links of the automotive industry, Cook uses his two passions that are cars and art to create ‘Autodrawings:radio controlled artwork’.
Cook’s most well know artwork to date is that of ‘Lewis Hamilton the portrait’, this artwork is the size of a three storey building and was displayed next to tower bridge in Central London.
Cook’s main focus is to create auto drawings of vehicles. Cook has worked with Chevrolet (UK) on a number of occasions including featuring at the 2008 London International Motor show and the 2009 World Touring Car ‘Race of UK’ round held at Brands Hatch. Over the past two years Chevrolet’s commissioned include the concept vehicles of the 2008 Beat and Camaro, the two WTCC Lacetti and Cruze, as well as the iconic Transformers ‘Bumblebee’. This will be the first time a artwork has been done of both the concept and final production vehicle of the Spark.
Throughout 2009 Cook featured at Autosport International, Race Retro (historic motorsport show), Goodwood Festival of Speed and the British Grand Prix. A service/pit area is not unfamiliar to Cook
for the WRC Rally of Great Britain event, Cook created two WRC artworks within the service area in-between the rally cars being prepared (and fixed!) for the event. A major highlight of the 2009 season was featuring at the Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) as part of the entertainment at the circuit.
More recently Cook had his artwork featured on Top Gear’s art special held at the Mima art gallery. For 2010 Cook is working in association with the tyre manufacturer Dunlop on a number of projects and is also proud to be involved with Chevrolet’s 2010 “Young?Creative?Chevrolet!” contest.
This year will also see the development of ‘Popbang product’ including reproductions of originals, clothing, bespoke jewellery and footwear collaborations.
